Granville Leadership Team

Nicole Zick- Washington, Principal

Nicole Zick

Nicole Zick-Washington, Ed.S., Principal at Granville Lutheran School, has been a part of the LUMIN family since 2015. She entered the network as a parent in 2013. Nicole grew up in Milwaukee, WI. From a very young age, Nicole knew she wanted to be a teacher or a lawyer. Before becoming an assistant principal at LUMIN, she worked as the middle school math teacher at Granville Lutheran. She also worked for the State of Wisconsin for 20 years while holding various part-time positions as a mentor, tutor, crisis stabilizer, and coach with youth. Nicole sits on the Board of Education for the Brown Deer School District and is a self-published author who is working on completing her third book. She studied Community Leadership & Development at Alverno College where she received her Bachelor’s degree. Nicole went on to further her educational knowledge by attending Concordia University where she obtained her Master’s degree in Public Administration; followed by attending Northcentral University where she obtained her Education Specialist Degree.

Nicole is married and has three sons (Javier, Cole, and KJ). She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. On Saturday mornings, you can find Nicole enjoying time with her family and making memories.

One of the things that drew Nicole to LUMIN is the ability to incorporate the greatness of God and our blessings into the work we do with our students. She can use her life experiences, which included many hardships and obstacles, as well as overcoming them, to motivate her to help her scholars and assist LUMIN in continuing their mission. The opportunity to have a hand in shaping our future is what Nicole enjoys most about her role.

Her favorite scripture is Corinthians 13: “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains but have not love, I am nothing...  Love is patient, and love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud...  And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Hence, the titles of her books are Hope and Faith, which are completed, and she is working on Love. Nicole strongly believes that all action should be rooted in love.

Dontanian’s favorite Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6, reflects a deep faith: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” This scripture guides his life and work, embodying LUMIN’s mission to provide a Christ-centered education that prepares students for a life of faith, service, and leadership.

Since joining LUMIN Schools in 2017, Dontanian has embraced the network’s vision to nurture and empower students to make a positive impact on their communities.
